4 Reasons you should hire an interior designer!

Updated: Jun 11, 2019

One of my core beliefs is that everyone deserves to live in an incredible space that brings you comfort and joy. Your home should be a reflection of your personality and it should function in a way that works with how you and your family live. When you walk inside your front door, it should give you chills of excitement to be home.

As you read this you may sitting in your dining room looking at that bare spot on your wall that you keep meaning to do something about and thinking this sounds impossible – I come home and I see a list of things to do. That’s because incredible interior design does not happen by chance. Great spaces are thoughtfully and creatively explored, planned, and curated.

Unfortunately, many people get intimidated by the idea of hiring an interior designer. Here are my 4 reasons why you need to hire an interior designer for your home.

I love pulling inspirational images, textures, samples together to give my clients a clear visual of where I see their project going.

1. YOU'RE GOING TO SAVE MONEY.

This sounds crazy, right? Let me break it down with this analogy.

Every summer I buy a pair of sunglasses at Target for like $20. I have to buy a new pair every summer because I lose the ones from the previous summer (it’s Oregon and we only need them for like three months.) In the past five years I’ve spent around $100 on sunglasses. If you were to try to sell me a pair of $100 sunglasses, I’d say, “What?! Heck No! I don’t need them year round and who spend $100 on sunglasses?!?”

But you know what happened when I INVESTED in a great pair of sunglasses? I valued them. I saw how much better they fit on my face and protected my eyes. I loved them! I didn’t lose them. I took care of them. I know where they were -- even when it’s snowing outside. Best of all, when summer rolls around, I don’t have to spend $20 on a new pair that I will basically view as disposable.

Design is an investment. When you work with a designer, you don’t make impulse purchases because you saw something on sale or because you saw your favorite blogger with it on Instagram. Your purchases will be purposeful and work for YOU. When you thoughtfully spend money on the front end, you save money on the backend.

2. YOU'RE GOING TO SAVE TIME.

We live in a very fast pace culture. A majority of Americans spend more time with their co-workers than with their family and friends. If we’re lucky, we have two days off a week.

In those two days we try to fit everything in! We need to go grocery shopping, clean the house, do, taxes, yard work, search for a credenza for the family room and and we also try to fit in FUN! If you’re brain and body are busy shopping for your home, you can’t relax and really enjoy the FUN stuff on the weekends.

It’s amazing how many of clients say they can breath deeper once we finish their home. They say a huge weight has been lifted that they didn’t know was weighing them down. When you allow a professional to take charge of your home, it will open up mental space and space on your calendar!

3. YOUR HOME WILL HAVE THE WOW FACTOR!

Designers have access to many furnishings and materials that are not available to the public. In addition, many designers have an eye for selecting special vintage finds. Your home will not look like a West Elm or Ikea showroom, it will look carefully curated and feel special. Your friends will be jealous.

4. YOUR HOME WILL BE CLEANER.

When you walk into a space that your designer just installed, you will find that everything has a place and a purpose. You will breath deep and want to keep it that way! It is so natural for us to put things back in a place, when it has a special place to live. Kids also find it easier to help clean when they know where something belongs.
